One of the worst ramifications of addiction is that the person suffering from it is usually in denial about their problems. Sometimes it can be as simple as being blind to the problem, other times they simply refuse to see the truth that is right before their eyes. If you believe that you or someone you know and care about is struggling with drug or alcohol abuse, knowing the signs that indicate an addiction is an important step. It takes away the “I believe that” or “I feel as though” comments and allows people to confront themselves or others with facts instead of speculation. There are remarkably few people addicted to a controlled substance that believe that their life is perfect the way it is. Most patients realize addiction is a problem and understand their life would be different if they could cleanse themselves of the urges and overwhelming cravings to use drugs. The unfortunate truth is that most people that go through the traditional 12-step program rightfully worry about relapse prevention as it is likely to happen. With their reputation for compulsory religiosity and low statistical rate of success (which at 5% barely deserves to be called a rate of “success”) most people find that 12-step programs and traditional drug rehab centers do little for them in the long run. First, if you are an addict or affiliated with one, then chances are you know about the 12 step drug rehab approach. It’s been around the longest and its foundation of what it relies upon as a form of treatment is basically understood by many. What most don’t realize is that it is a generic treatment for a very serious condition, which is what drug addiction and alcohol abuse is.
What does generic mean? It basically means it’s a catch-all treatment or a broad spectrum treatment. How many times have you gone to the doctor because you have a virus and been told that they don’t know what the specific virus is, but they will treat it with a broad spectrum antibiotic? This means this antibiotic might be effective against the type of illness you have. Likewise, the 12 step program might be effective as a treatment for some drug abusers and alcoholics. The 12 step drug rehab program formed its foundation in 1935 and originally focused on 12 steps whereby primarily the alcoholic, and later adopted for hard core drug users, would basically form a relationship with God through a series of 12 steps, and as a result would be able to overcome their addiction.
There is no doubt that every human being must have their own form of soul searching and beliefs, and not just applicable to drug addiction but for their own personal journey through life. When it comes to drug recovery there has to be more to the treatment because the 12 step is only focusing on just one area of many that make up the drug addict or the alcoholic. First thought may be that if biophysical rehabilitation is not a new form of treatment then why isn’t there more known about it, and why hasn’t there been a higher success rate? Let’s address these two most valid questions separately, but first having a bit of knowledge about this most effective treatment will give you a greater understanding to the answers of the two questions. A friend of mine sent me a note regarding a call he had with a mother recently. He’s a rehab counselor and interventionist and last week he was helping a retired doctor (anesthesiologist) to find a biophysical drug rehab program for her step son. He had known of biophysical treatment for some time but was much more inclined to go traditional route for rehab recommendations, etc.
She really opened his eyes. Continue reading How A Mother Set The Record Straight Regarding Biophysical Drug Rehab Treatment

How Biophysical Drug Rehabs May Be Helping Future Generations
Just this week major news media reported that the CDC links prescription pain killers in pregnancy to birth defects. The National Birth Defects Study, conducted by the CDC, is the largest study ever done on causes of birth defects in the US. Continue reading CDC Study Warns Of Painkiller Use & Birth Defects

Biophysical drug rehab centers are not very common (maybe 20 in the US?). I have been a drug rehab counselor for many years, and it was not long ago that families had never heard of biophysical drug rehab options. But in the last year I have heard more reports than ever about people being told that ‘many’ of the centers they are calling about had ‘biophysical rehab treatment’ services.
There are pros and cons with this, of course. Continue reading Treatment Centers Jumping Onto The Biophysical Drug Rehab Bandwagon

More and more we see and read about how doctors are going to school to learn how to prescribe medications. The astronomical rate of increased use of these controlled substances is putting a future generation at risk of being drugged out of their minds by adulthood. Sadly, many doctors today are becoming legal drug pushers. Continue reading MSNBC Headline Reads: More Teens Getting Dangerous Prescriptions

Last week major news agencies like USA Today and others reported on a study from an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. It detailed how young brains become damaged in terms of executive, cognitive and decision-making functions.
The emphasis was on how young teens experienced executive or cognitive difficulties that persist due to how brains are not fully formed until into our 20′s. It also found that users would typically smoke a greater quantity and more usage of other drugs as compared to those who did not start smoking till later in life.
